7 Tips To Hosting A Cigar Bar At Your Wedding

Wade Moreno

As the pandemic winds down, engaged couples are moving away from micro weddings and towards elaborate celebrations again. A popular trend is to include interactive activities for guests. While a dance floor is traditional, creative couples are adding unusual interactive activities, like giant lawn games, photo booths, and even tarot card readers.

One exciting trend is the addition of a cigar bar. This is quite different than a designated smoking area, however. Cigar bars typically feature quality cigars, like Rocky Patel cigars, as well as one or two experts hand-rolling cigars while your guests watch, which can be fascinating. While not everyone smokes cigars, plenty of people will want to watch the process of how they are made. There are a few tips to keep in mind.

1. Photo op

Cigar bars are perfect photo ops. Be sure to tell your wedding photographer to stop by throughout the night and grab some photos. Better yet, leave a few disposable cameras or a selfie stick so guests can take photos of themselves.

2. Location

Cigars are not for everyone and that's ok. Just position the cigar bar away from the main dance floor so everyone has a good time. Be sure to include signage directing your smoking and cigar-curious guests to the designated area.

3. Permission

Most reception venues have designated smoking areas. Talk to your coordinator in advance about setting up a cigar bar. Cigar bars are starting to grow in popularity and many venues are familiar with them.

4. Surprise

If you have a cigar-loving fiancee or parent, why not keep the cigar bar a secret? You can surprise them at the reception with your thoughtful idea.

5. Timing

The good cigar is large and, unlike a cigarette, takes quite a bit of time to smoke. Plan on offering smaller versions, like petite coronas or mini cigarillos, for guests to smoke quickly and then re-join the party. You can have larger cigars prepped in gift bags for guests to take home.

6. Drinks

Nothing goes better with a good cigar than an after-dinner drink. Set up a second bar or even an exclusive bourbon or whiskey bar next to your cigar rolling station and let guests enjoy both. Be sure to include additional seating or a lounge area so guests can relax.

Hosting a cigar bar at a wedding reception is a unique and memorable way to extend the celebration.
